Medstar's clinical teams are informed and prepared for any potentially infectious disease patient we may encounter. We are closely engaged with all public health and local healthcare leadership, as well as local and state EMS oversight bodies concerning Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
We are following all local, state, and federal COVID-19 protocols including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 Guidance for EMS. This includes their extended and limited reuse of N95 filtering facepiece respirators (i.e., masks) guidelines.

Medstar's UV Sterilization Process
Medstar is on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic and has UV sterilization available for ambulance and equipment used to transport a patient meeting screening criteria for the virus. UV sterilization has been proven to be the most effective mechanism to kill viruses on surfaces.
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Medstar is offering the use of its UV sterilization equipment to police, fire, and other EMS agencies throughout the Medstar service area.
Medstar's UV decontamination process was featured on WNEM TV 5 News and WLNS 6 News and in The Macomb Daily.
