Kolby Miller, CEO of Clinton Township-based MedStar, an EMS provider serving Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties, said offering overtime and additional incentives is not a long-term solution to this long-standing workforce shortage. Currently, MedStar has around 900 full- and part-time personnel on its clinical operations team.

“We are investing in full-time personnel who are joining our organization and being paid to complete the EMT Academy and move into full-time clinical jobs immediately after the academy,” he said. “ As of Nov. 1, our EMT Academy had produced 130 new full-time EMTs in 2021 and we have two more academies starting this year that will add another 60 EMTs to our team.” READ MORE.
